Join Maternal Health OT for our May Guest Speaker Series Webinar, Evidence-Based Practice in Parental and Maternal Health:
Designed specifically for occupational therapy practitioners and students, this guest webinar focuses on the integration of evidence-based practice (EBP) in maternal and parental health. Our presenter will cover a refresher on EBP, its definition, relevance to our domain, and the evidence supporting its implementation. Dr. McLean will explore how using the EBP framework guides research, and will conclude with an example of a group program for expecting parents that she developed in Australia to demonstrate the application of EBP principles. There will be dedicated time for a question and answer session with the presenter. This webinar aims to improve understanding and application of EBP in your practice, improving outcomes for the families you serve.
Learning Objectives:
Learners will understand the foundational concepts and significance of evidence-based practice in maternal and parental health.
Learners will recognize the characteristics and real-world applications of effective evidence-based practice in clinical settings.
Learners will explore the roles and contributions of occupational therapists and other healthcare professionals in implementing and advancing evidence-based practice.
Learners will be able to apply evidence-based practice principles in designing and evaluating group therapy programs for maternal and parental health.
About the Speaker: Belinda McLean, PhD, Bsc (OT) is an Occupational Therapy Teaching and Research Academic at the Curtin School of Allied Health in Australia. She completed her PhD in pediatric rehabilitation and, since becoming a mother of three, including twins, has developed a keen interest in new parent wellbeing. Belinda has a growing research profile in the Matrescence practice space, with a published paper and book chapter contribution. She also co-convened a Perinatal and Parenting Mental Health Symposium with the Curtin School of Allied Health in 2023. Her research interests include occupational therapy for new parents and supporting children with sensory and learning differences to develop a positive sense of self and reach their desired goals.
Continuing Education Units (CEUs): According to the 2024 NBCOT Activities Chart, this seminar may qualify for 1.25 continuing education units towards your NBCOT renewal. In order to qualify, you must complete the designated post test which will be emailed to all participants who attend the guest lecture. Once the post-test is completed, a link will be sent with a certificate for you to download for your personal CEU records. As each state and regional licensing board differs, please check your state licensing regulations to confirm if it qualifies toward renewal of state professional licenses.
